CARIBOU – Benjamin H. Labobe, Sr., 70, passed away on September 19, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on August 19, 1946, in Houlton, the son of the late Benny and Lizzy (Hanning) Labobe.
Ben was a jack of all trades from a basket maker, construction worker to a truck driver. He graduated from Northern Maine Technical College with his associate’s degree in Residential Construction. His hobbies included guitar playing, riding snowmobiles and motorcycles with his friends and family.
He is survived by his two children, Beth (Labobe) Diamond of Caribou and Ben Labobe, Jr. of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, Whytnie Martin-Sackett of Presque Isle, Ben Labobe III and his wife, Stephanie of Sierra Vista, AZ, Nikolas Martin-Sackett of Caribou, and Andrew Labobe and Sandy Scott of Mars Hill, nine great-grandchildren; Archer, Emberlee, Alyssa, Audrey, Rorian, Ari, Jace, Jaxson and Lily; his brother, Eldon Hanning of Limestone; sister, Roberta Labobe of Caribou; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ben was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Shirley (Gagnon) Labobe, whom he stood by until her last moment on this earth; his brothers, Eddie, Jimmy and George Labobe; and his sister, Florence.
Friends called 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 11 a.m., September 22, 2016, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Caribou, with The Very Rev. Jean Paul LaBrie, Celebrant. Interment followed at New Holy Rosary Cemetery, Caribou. A celebration of life reception was held after the services at Spruce Haven, Doyle Rd., Caribou.
