PORTLAND – Donald R. Hallett, 82, passed away September 21, 2016, at Gosnell Hospice House. He was born May 12, 1934, in Presque Isle, one of five children of Ralph and Florence (Adams) Hallett.
He was a 1951 graduate of ACI at Mars Hill, and went to work as a Federal Civil Servant at Presque Isle Air Force Base. When the Base closed in 1961, he transferred to Dow AFB in Bangor, and changed career fields from supply management to Personnel Administrator. When Dow ceased in 1968, he transferred to the AEB in Plattsburgh, NY. He remained there until his retirement in 1991 having completed 40 years of federal service. Following retirement, he moved to Portland to be nearer family members. He was an avid spectator sports fan especially of pro-tennis, March Madness, golf, Olympics, and of course, the Red Sox.
He is survived by 14 nieces and nephews, including Lynn Hatala who will be managing his affairs. He was also survived by his uncle, Herman Hallett and wife, Beverly of Hermon, ME; sister-in-law, Doris Dumais, widow of Richard now married to Burt and living in Nahsua, NH; and sister-in-law, Cynthia Hallett, widow of Terry. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Avis Miller; and brothers, Ralph, Richard, and Terry.
