The Caribou Middle School boys’ soccer team won its final two matches and clinched at least a tie for the Aroostook League championship.
Caribou shut out Fort Fairfield on Sept. 19, 5-0, behind two goals by Ethan Holdsworth and one each by Sawyer Deprey, Carter Quist and Ari Plante. PJ Thornton earned the shutout in goal and was helped by a strong defensive effort by the Vikings. Ryan Austin, Logan Cheplic and Cody Waldermarson all played well in the victory.
On Saturday, Caribou bested Houlton, 7-2, with Holdsworth notching a hat trick and Miles Collier chipping in with two goals and two assists. Quist and Plante also scored goals and Waldermarson, Cory Herbert and Riley Bouchard had assists. Carter Belanger, Jordan Duplissie, Brevin Barnes and Dakota Yakel were the defensive standouts.
Holdsworth became the all-time leading point scorer with 58 points (goals and assists). He broke the previous mark of 55 established by Josiah Krul from 2010-12.
Caribou went 10-3 overall and 5-1 in league play, outscoring opponents by a 57-14 margin. The team had five shutout wins and only had one game where it surrendered more than two goals.
Holdsworth led the team in scoring with 27 points, followed by Barnes with nine, Dan Uchendu with eight, Collier with seven and Sawyer Deprey and Belanger with five each.
