HOULTON — A $1.5 million dwelling designed by officials from Ward Cedar Homes in Houlton is making its way to the Dominican Republic.
And while the company has sent building packages around the world, it marks the first time the local company has designed a building for a current Major League baseball player. Company officials declined to name the player due to a confidentiality agreement.
According to Ron Silliboy, corporate sales at Ward Cedar Homes in Houlton, back in December of 2015, they were contacted by one of their sales representatives in the Caribbean market that a current baseball player wanted to purchase a custom-built home.
“We have about 60 authorized representative throughout the world,” explained Mike Doody, controller at Ward Cedar Homes. “This home will be one of the largest residential buildings we have built at 9,000 square feet.”
The mansion, which is the sixth home built by the representative in the Caribbean, features six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a game room, exercise room, movie theater and bowling alley.
“We went through quite a few revisions until we got the home narrowed down to exactly what he wanted,” Silliboy said.
The package for the home was manufactured in Houlton and will be shipped in five containers to the Dominican Republic where it will be assembled. It was slated to arrive on the island nation in late September and take roughly six months to assemble.
It is not the first time that a celebrity has purchased a home through Ward Cedar Homes. Doody said he recalls selling a home to the daughter of Art Linkletter, an editor for National Geographic, and a conductor for the Boston Symphony in years past. The company has also designed several buildings for Princeton University.
