October 1, 1914
Record breaking — Three pickers, Frank Woodward, James Erskine and Fred Tardy, did a record breaking day’s work picking potatoes on the farm of A. W. English, 346 barrels standing to their credit when they knocked off work for the day. Mr. English’s farm on the Center Line Road yielded from 125 to 130 barrels to the acre.
Women’s Clubs — Mrs. Percy V. Pennybacker, of Texas, president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, was the guest of Mrs. C.F.A. Phair during the State Federation held in town. Mrs. Frederick P. Abbott of Saco, president of the State Federation, was the guest of Mrs. Idella Cross.

Hot dog roast — Faculty members at Gouldville School held a hot dog roast at the Sutter Farm on the Reach Road. Raymond Roderick, who had resigned his teaching position, was presented a gift. Attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Roderick, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Haskell and daughter, Virginia; and the Misses Edith Fairweather, Amber Sutter, Mary Shannon, Anita Hunter, Audrey McEachern, Pauline Michaud, Madeline Ireland, Bertha Lawrence, Viola Powers, Phyllis Rolfe, Doris Brewer, Fern Snowman, Helen Hoyt and Elise Coffey.
Conference — Perry S. Jackson, Aroostook County Boy Scout executive, returned after attending the Regional Boy Scout Conference at Swampscott, Mass.

October 6, 1966
High School accredited — Superintendent of Schools Roland Andrews notified the Star-Herald that Presque Isle High School had recently received a Certificate of Accreditation by the State of Maine Department of Education. The certificate was signed by William O. Bailey, chairman of the State Board of Education, William T. Logan, State Commissioner of education, and Joseph J. Devitt, director of secondary education.
Zone petition accepted — The Presque Isle City Council accepted the “Mark Turner petition” to eliminate the restrictions on distance between gas stations. The Council then issued a warrant for a special election in conjunction with the general election, to let the voters decide whether to allow the petitioned change.

WAGM crew wins awards — Several WAGM-TV staff members were honored with awards at the convention of the Maine Association of Broadcasters, judged by New Hampshire broadcasters. For their continuing coverage of the Allagash flood, reporter Sara Dyer and photographers Walter Proulx and Jim Hogan won a first-place MAB citation. In addition, Dyer, Hogan and Proulx, along with reporter Ed Walsh and cameraman Mike McNally received honorable mention for their coverage of the Presque Isle animal cruelty case. TV-8 was recognized with an honorable mention in the “best newscast” division.
Ski club officers — The quoggy Jo Ski Club of Presque Isle held an organizational meeting in preparation for the 1991-92 ski season. Elected to office for the year were Kathy White, secretary/membership chairman; Jayne Bowler, president; Sally Johnson, vice president; Steve Bowler, treasurer; Ben Johnson, assistant vice president; and Jim Berry, ski patrol director.
