ISLAND FALLS — Gertrude Helena (Callahan) Webb, 99, passed away peacefully at the Mountain Heights Health Care Facility in Patten on Sept. 30, 2016. She was born in Island Falls on Aug. 30, 1917, the daughter of Hillman Cyrillus & Matilda Audrey (Brooks) Callahan.

Gerti was known for her wonderful cooking skills. Every morning after her coffee, she would make the “dessert of the day”. Every Saturday after making the dessert, she would bake 4 loaves of oatmeal bread, put in a big pot of homemade baked beans, make a potato salad and lastly, fry hotdogs in bacon grease. Her leftovers were as good as, or even better, than the original meal. She was a meticulous house keeper and sewed all of her daughters clothes until the 8th grade. She taught her children the importance of faith, family and friends and always stressed the value of having a good reputation, being honest and living by the “Golden Rule”; do under others as you would have others do unto you.

Gertrude is survived by her four children, Ronald Fredrick Webb Jr. “Junie” & his wife Margaret, Gary LeRoy Webb & his wife Andrea, daughter Gail Frances Webb Davis & husband Brian and son Roger Alan Webb; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is predeceased by her husband, Ronald Frederick Webb Sr. “Bucky”; a sister Hilda Bartlett; a brother Donald Prescott and a step-brother Earl Callahan.

The family would like to thank Terry and Sue Spinney of Graymoor Adult Care Home in Houlton, and for the patient, caring, and loving staff of the Patten nursing home. Thanks also to mom’s long time family doctor, Dr. Blum. Thank you also to the Beacon Hospice of Bangor for easing her last moments.

A graveside service was held 11 a.m. on Tues., Oct. 4 at the Island Falls Cemetery. A reception followed at the Whittier Congregational Church, 15 Burleigh Street, Island Falls.
