Soccer season continues for Viking and Tigers

Vikes fell to 1-7-1 on season after loss to Crusaders

The Caribou girls played to a scoreless tie Saturday in a road match against John Bapst, and are now 6-2-1 and in fourth place in the Class B North division.

In the game played at Husson University in Bangor, Kerrigan Manter had six saves on 11 shots and Kayla Massey seven saves on 13 shots as the teams battled through 80 minutes of regulation and 10 more of overtime without a goal being scored. John Bapst is now at 8-1-1 and in sixth place.

The Viking boys fell to 1-7-1 on the season after losing to the Crusaders, 6-0. Alvara Valls scored twice as Bapst improved to 9-1.

The Caribou teams host Fort Kent tonight, with the girls game set to start at 5 p.m. and the boys to follow at 7 p.m. The Vikings play at Mount Desert Island Saturday before hosting Old Town Monday afternoon, with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

It was a light schedule overall in the region with harvest recess in full gear, but the Fort Fairfield squads were both in action for a pair of matches. The Tiger boys claimed two pointworthy victories by topping Fort Kent last Tuesday, 2-1, and Central Aroostook Thursday, 5-0. Ryan Player scored three goals in the latest win, which improved the team’s record to 11-0. Fort Fairfield is comfortably in first place in Class D North with three games remaining.

The Fort Fairfield girls were beaten by both FK and CA by a combined score of 22-1. The Tigers, under first-year coach Jocelyn MacDonald, saw their record fall to 2-7-2.

The Tiger teams next play Monday, Oct. 10 at home against LCS/MSSM. The boys game is at 4 p.m., followed by the girls contest at 6 p.m.
