Soccer Shoot winners advance

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Winners from the “Soccer Shoot” penalty kicking contest, held by the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 Sept. 25, 2016, will advance to the Northern District “Soccer Shoot” to be held at noon this Sunday, Oct. 9 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

According to “Soccer Shoot” chair Michael LaFrance, the Northern District encompasses all competitors from Pittsfield and all towns and cities to the North.

Winners in the girls’ division from the Presque Isle Lodge “Soccer Shoot” were McKinley Cronin in the 7-year-old and under category. Mallory Cronin for 8 and 9 year-olds, Amelia Bates in the 10 and 11 year-old category; and Kearstin Coty in the 12 and 13-year-old category. From the boys’ division, Brayden Amero was the winner for the 7 year-old and under division; Isaac Staples won in the 8 and 9 year-old category; Blake Davenport was the winner among the 10 and 11-year-old boys; and Benjamin Ryan was the high scorer for 12 and 13 year-old boys.

“All of the winners in both divisions and in all categories exhibited extraordinary talent, but especially in the older categories, where the competition was particularly strong,” LaFrance said.

He added that based upon the scores achieved at the state level in previous years, this year’s winners of the Presque Isle ‘Soccer Shoot’ have an excellent shot at winning a state championship at the this year’s state event, which will be held at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Oct. 15,” LaFrance stated.
