McElwain finished in 2 hours, 31 minutes and 36 seconds, which was 49 seconds clear of runner-up Taylor Days-Merrill of Fairhaven, Mass.

The win put McElwain in distinct company as he joined Evan Graves of Caribou and Maninda Marube of Auburn as the only individuals to win both the Maine Marathon and the Maine Half Marathon.
