HOULTON, Maine — Cross country squads from throughout The County converged on Houlton Friday afternoon for the 2016 Aroostook League cross country championships. And when the dust had settled, Caribou ran away with both the boys’ and girls’ championships.
Teams from Houlton, Presque Isle, Fort Kent, Limestone-MSSM and Greater Houlton Christian Academy all participated in the meet. A field of 50 boys and 56 girls competed in the race, held on the cross country course located behind Houlton High School.
“The seven schools that comprise the Aroostook League were faced with a technical course featuring plenty of hills, sharp descents, hard turns, and a variety of running surfaces,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines. “The course layout was new to accommodate the traditional 5-kilometer race distance which is standard in most high school races and championships.
Houlton’s Isaiah Brown was the top overall runner, completing the course in 17 minutes, 31.90 seconds. GHCA’s Teagan Ewings was the first female runner, crossing the finish line
in 21:13.20.
