Cyr and Jandreau lead ‘Cats in meet

HOULTON, Maine — Presque Isle Wildcat sophomores Trace Cyr and Madison Jandreau had their teams’ top performances at the Aroostook League championships held Friday in Houlton.

Cyr placed seventh out of 50 runners in the boys’ five-kilometer race, recording a time of 18:50.5, while Jandreau was fourth out of 56 runners in the girls’ meet with a 21:49.7 clocking.
The Caribou teams swept the team titles. The Viking boys scored 33 points to win easily over runner-up Presque Isle, which posted 59 points. GHCA had 85, LCS/MSSM 89, Fort Kent 114 and Houlton 124.
The Caribou girls totaled 41 points and finished ahead of second-place GHCA by a margin of 12. LCS/MSSM registered a score of 73 to take third, while Presque Isle (85), Houlton (131) and Fort Kent (150) also competed.
Devon Maynard of Washburn took the ninth position in 19:20.4. Max Bartley of PI was 11th in 19:37.1 and Wildcat teammates Joshua Ashton and Brandon McKnight were 14th and 15th, respectively. Ashton had a time of 19:49.9 and McKnight finished in 20:14.4.
The race winner was Houlton’s Isaiah Brown in 17:31.9.
In the girls’ race, after Jandreau for Presque Isle was Isabelle Jackson, who was 14th in 23:04.9. Eleanor Goheen (26:59.7), Maddie Wing (27:27.9) and Stephanie Donovan (27:37.6) were Wildcats finishing in succession, 30th through 32nd.
Leading Washburn was Kassandra Farley, eighth in 22:12.9., while teammate Maggie Castonguay was 23rd in 25:27.8.
The race winner was GHCA freshman Teagan Ewings in 21:13.2.
Washburn hosts other Class C Aroostook County schools in a meet this afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m. Presque Isle competes in the Penobscot Valley Conference championships Saturday at Old Town High School.
