WASHBURN NEWS
By Amy Sawyer
Students in pre-K at Washburn District Elementary School recently participated in a unique learning opportunity with the help of Mrs. Philbrook, Mrs. Smith and Ms. Cote.
As part of a math unit that helps students learn shape identification, the youngsters embarked on a scavenger hunt throughout the school building. Students were split into three groups as they read clues to help lead them to a circle, square, triangle and rectangle. Each shape was hidden in a predetermined spot in the building.
The kids had a lot of fun and were able to identify all four shapes. Special thanks to Mrs. Philbrook for providing the idea.
Royal community support
Miss Teen Washburn Raegan Whipkey used a portion of her babysitting money to give back to the community by putting food and items in the Community Cupboard, located at the Aroostook County Action Program office in Presque Isle.
The Community Cupboard is for people in need who don’t always have the opportunity to access food pantries when they are open. The cupboard is available 24 hours a day.

Historical Society
The Salmon Brook Historical Society extends their thanks to those who have supported fundraising efforts this year.
You know who you are; you purchased and/or sold raffle quilt tickets for us culminating in the drawing of Steve Helstrom as the winner. You donated or bought items during our first annual barn sale of used items in July. You cleaned, sorted and labeled donated items throughout the summer. You attended, donated food, loaned quilts and volunteered at our 4th Annual Quilt Show & Tea in August. You assisted in showing the Wilder Homestead and the Aroostook Agricultural Museum to our many visitors during August Fest.
You donated time, money, food, and labor to help make our third annual harvest bean supper a success in September. It was rewarding to end our year by joining the Washburn Rotary Club and many community members for good food and lively conversation. The Snowmobile Trail Runners Clubhouse was abuzz with the sound of families enjoying each other the entire evening.
Many have donated to our Wall of Fame and this opportunity to provide financial support will continue to exist. Your support will help keep our museums up and running.
