NEW LIMERICK, Maine — A New Limerick man and his two small children were injured Tuesday morning in a single-car rollover on the Campbell Road.
According to Sgt. Josh Haines of the Maine State Police, Zachary McCarty, 24, was traveling north on the Campbell Road at 6:19 a.m. in a 2006 Ford SUV when his vehicle crossed the centerline, left the road, rolled over and struck a utility pole.
McCarty’s two children, Bentley, age 2, and Zach, 4, were passengers in the vehicle. The 4-year-old was ejected from the vehicle. Restraint systems were believed to be in use by all three, but the older child was known to unbuckle his belt while driving, according to Sgt. Haines. All three occupants were transported by Houlton Ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Haines said it was believed that Zachary fell asleep while driving. The investigation is ongoing.
