Mike Carpenter offers vast experience
To the editor:
Mike Carpenter is running for Senate District 2 and we encourage everyone to join us and cast their vote for Mike.
We have long respected and admired Mike Carpenter. He is perhaps the most qualified candidate running for Senate anywhere in the state of Maine. Beginning in the 1970s, Mike represented Aroostook County by serving two years in the House, then 10 years in the Senate. Later, in the 1990s, the Maine Legislature elected Mike to the office of Maine Attorney General in which he served five years.
Aroostook County will benefit from Mike’s vast experience and his lifetime of helping the people. However, beyond that strong background is a quality of decentness rarely found in politics today. Mike has always had a dedication and willingness to work with anyone for the greater good of Maine.
Forty years ago, as a young legislator, Mike had a radio call-in program every Sunday evening on WHOU in Houlton. We were among the listeners. Mike would take calls from constituents, answer questions and always offer to help those needing aid.
Decades back, many will remember the letter of gratitude sent to and printed in a local newspaper from an older out-of-state couple who had broken down one Friday evening – during the winter – northbound on I-95 in Aroostook County. They could not remember the name of the man who pulled over and helped them, but they wished to extend their thanks. They said that man had called the State Trooper barracks in Houlton and waited with them until help arrived. What they did remember was that he mentioned he was Maine’s Attorney General and he was headed home to Houlton after working all week in Augusta.
Aroostook County – and the state of Maine – needs a Senator like Mike Carpenter to help straighten things out. Please vote for Mike on November 8.
