LITTLETON, Maine — A 27-year-old Littleton man was arrested Wednesday evening after leading police on a high-speed chase through the town.
Chester Scott was charged with violating a protection order, eluding a police officer, failing to stop for a police officer, criminal speeding, driving to endanger, and operating after suspension after leading Maine State Police on a chase.
State police received a telephone complaint at 6:10 p.m. that Scott had been driving a vehicle on the Foster Road in Littleton. Scott had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear in court on a theft charge and police were also aware that he had a suspended driver’s license.
According to Sgt. Jeff Clark of the Maine State Police, troopers Patrick Pescitelli and Eric Sucy responded to the area to look for Scott. The vehicle Scott was reported to be driving, a 2002 Dodge Caravan, was spotted at his residence and Trooper Sucy parked near the home, waiting to see if the man would leave.
When Scott left the residence in the minivan, Trooper Sucy exited his cruiser and attempted to flag the operator down. Scott saw the officer and accelerated south on the Foster Road in an attempt to get away from police.
Tr. Sucy attempted to stop Scott using his police cruiser’s emergency lights and siren, but the driver refused to stop. Scott turned onto the Station Road, where he reportedly reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone.
The driver finally stopped at the Littleton Pit Stop on the corner of Station Road and U.S. Route 1, where he was taken into custody.
The chase covered approximately two miles and lasted only five minutes, Sgt. Clark said. Two passengers in Scott’s van were not identified by police.
Scott was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He is scheduled to appear in Houlton District Court on Dec. 6.
