Bernard fires top-10 round at state tourney

Five local golfers earned the right to compete in Saturday’s high school individual championships, which took place at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro.

For the boys, Jon Bernard of Fort Fairfield tied for eighth place in Class C by notching an 84 on the day. Presque Isle’s Hunter Flynn took 27th in the Class B competition with his score of 94.
Logan Thompson of Mattanawcook Academy was the Class C champ with a 67 and Eric Dugas of Maine Central Institute captured top honors in Class B with a 73.
On the girls’ side, Fort Fairfield’s Sadie Edgecomb had the top placement as she carded a 100, tying her for 21st overall. Presque Isle’s Libby Boone was 28th with a 104, while Sara Edgecomb of the Tigers had a 106 to tie for 31st.
The girls’ co-champions were Bailey Plourde of Lincoln Academy and Erin Holmes of Greely, each with 73s.
Bernard and the Edgecomb twins had qualified for the state meet at the Aroostook League championships in Houlton held Sept. 16. Flynn and Boone turned in qualifying scores at the Sept. 28 Penobscot Valley Conference championships, which took place in Lincoln.
