It is on to the postseason for four of the five squads in the Houlton Pioneer Times coverage area as Houlton, Hodgdon, Southern Aroostook and Katahdin have all earned spots in the upcoming playoffs.
Final rankings for the Maine Principals Association Heal Point standings will not be released until Wednesday morning,
As of Tuesday morning, Katahdin (6-5-3, 78.6990) was ranked fifth in Class D North. If the Cougars stay in the fifth spot, the team would host the No. 12 seed (currently Washburn, 4-8-1) in a preliminary playoff on Friday. Katahdin did not play Washburn in the regular season.
Hodgdon (9-4-1, 74.0969) is presently in sixth place in Class D North and would host the No. 11 seed (currently Wisdom, 6-6-2) Thursday in a prelim game. The Hawks did not play Wisdom during the regular season.
Southern Aroostook (7-4-3, 64.4388) is presently eighth in Class D north and would host the No. 9 seed (currently Shead, 6-4) Friday in a prelim game. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
East Grand (3-11, 12.1429) finished 16th and did not make the playoffs.
The quarterfinal round continues for Class D on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
In Class C North, Houlton (11-1-2, 130.1020) unofficially finished in second place behind top-ranked Orono (9-1-3, 145.7398). The Shires will receive a first-round bye and face the winner of the prelim game between No. 7 (currently Fort Kent) and No. 10 (currently Narraguagus). Houlton did not play Narraguagus during the regular season, but beat Fort Kent twice – 5-1 at home and 3-0 at Fort Kent.
The Shires’ quarterfinal game is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26 (time to be determined).
The following is a recap of games played through Monday that were reported to the newspaper.
CAHS 5, East Grand 0 — At Danforth Monday, CA’s Gracie Giberson tallied three goals while Sydney Garrison and Jadeyn Giberson each had one to lead the Panthers of Mars Hill past East Grand.
Olivia Pelletier had eight saves on eight shots for Central Aroostook. Jordyn Cowger came up with 18 saves for East Grand.
Easton 4, Katahdin 3 — At Stacyville Monday, the Cougars came up just short against visiting Easton. Lydia Ferris tallied two goals and Isabel Morin and Ashley Cowley each added single goals for the Bears.
Georgia Landry had two goals for Katahdin, while Erin Lake contributed one goal and Bailey Moody Kay had an assist.
Mattanawcook Academy 0, Houlton 7 — At Houlton Monday, Mia Hanning and Kolleen Bouchard scored two goals each to lead the Shiretowners to victory. Jamie Brown added a goal and an assist, while Rebecca Mooers and Emma Peterson chipped in with a goal a piece.
Hannah Foley, Peterson and Mackenzie Hunt combined to make two saves on five shots.
Anya Johnson scored via a Symone Malbaurn assist at the 25:01 mark of the first half for Mattanawcook of Lincoln. Malbaurn made six saves on 19 shots.
Houlton 0, Orono 0 — At Orono Saturday, in a battle between the top two seeds in Class C North, Orono and Houlton battled to a scoreless stalemate. It marks the second time this season that the two teams have tied on the soccer field.
Aspen Flewelling had seven saves on 12 shots in goal for Houlton. The Shires are without starting goalie Tessa Solomon for the remainder of the season due to an injury.
Woodland 0, Southern Aroostook 3 — At Dyer Brook Friday, Katie Stevens had two goals and Kylie Vining had a goal and an assist to lead the Warriors over Woodland. Katelyn Slauenwhite also added an assist.
Sydney Brewer had five saves on five shots for the Warriors who improved to 7-4-3. Sadie Smith had 25 saves on 46 shots for Woodland.
Hodgdon 0, Ashland 4 — At Ashland Friday, Mackenzie Carter scored two goals to lead Ashland to an undefeated regular season with a win over the Hawks.
Cassidy Pelletier and Olivia Tardie tallied the final two goals with Kassandra Nelson contributing an assist for Ashland. Megan Cote was called on to make three saves on four shots. Jessica Drew had a busy evening for Hodgdon, stopping 27 of 53 shots.
Hodgdon 4, Limestone 3 — At Limestone Oct. 12, Taylor Desrosiers netted two goals to lead Hodgdon past Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Jill Gough and Madisyn Merritt added goals for Hodgdon.
Lilly Tedford led the Eagles with two goals and an assist, while Bri Becker had a goal and an assist.
Fort Fairfield 0, Southern Aroostook 4 — At Dyer Brook Oct. 12, Katie Stevens and Kylie Vining had two goals each en route to victory. Katelyn Slauenwhite, Kylie Vining, and Katie Stevens also added assists.
Sydney Brewer had four saves on five shots for the Warriors. Riley Clough had seven saves on 20 shots for the Tigers..
Katahdin 5, East Grand 2 — At Danforth Oct. 11, Bailey Moody-Kay booted in three goals for the hat trick as Katahdin defeated East Grand. Hannah Kyllonen and Erin Lake each added solo goals added goals for Cougars.
Haleigh Shay netted both goals for East Grand.
