Coty advances in Elks soccer contest
The state Elks Soccer Shootout was held in Augusta over the weekend with four Aroostook County youths advancing to the New England championships. One of them was Kearstin Coty of Caribou, who won the title in the 12-13 girls’ division.
Other winners were Raiden Cochran of Easton (age 7 and under boys), Jenna Cochran of Easton (10-11 girls) and Brandon Barton of Houlton (8-9 boys).
Coty and the other three will now advance to the New England Championships in Burlington, Vt. on Nov. 4.
Hockey registration
Presque Isle Youth Hockey Association will register younger and new players on Monday, Oct. 24 from 5-6:15 p.m. in the front lobby of the Presque Isle Forum. Equipment is available. Contact Bob Davis at bobdavis@mfx.com for more information.
Volunteers needed for Halloween party
Caribou Parks and Recreation Department officials are seeking individuals, businesses and organizations interested in providing a game or activity during the annual Halloween Party on Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. Inquiries should be made at the recreation office or by calling 493-4224.
Men’s basketball sign-up
The recreation departments from Caribou and Presque Isle are currently registering men’s adult league basketball teams. Registration will remain open until Oct. 31. The league will begin in early November and games will be played in both Caribou and Presque Isle. Game nights are Mondays and Wednesdays between 6-9 p.m.

Riding club to hold banquet
The end-of-the-year awards banquet for the Pine and Spurs Riding Club will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Opportunity Training Center, located at 25 Lombard St. in Presque Isle, beginning at 4 p.m.
This event is potluck and open to any interested parties. If you would like to become a member, membership fees are: $30 for a family (one or two adults, children under 18), $15 for single membership and $10 for youth under 12 years of age.
