After the recent ban of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on airlines by the U.S. Department of Transportation, local establishments in The County have taken the initiative to follow their lead.
TAMC and NMMC have announced that Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones are prohibited from their campuses due to potential safety hazards.
As of October 13, TAMC has implemented a ban until further notice on all TAMC properties of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, according to Tim Doak, director of facilities at TAMC. NMMC announced their ban this week.
“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of patients, visitors and staff in response to the numerous battery fires, explosions and dangerous chemical leaks being reported in the media regarding this particular make and model of cell phone,” Doak said in a statement. “This ban is particularly directed to those who work within TAMC’s facilities, from employees and contracted staff to volunteers. However, we are asking members of the public to please also support this effort for their own safety.”
Samsung recalled the Galaxy Note 7 and has discontinued making that model following several incidents of the smartphones overheating.
