OAKFIELD — Peter Wendell Drew, 69, of Oakfield, passed away peacefully, October 20th, with his wife and two daughters by his side at Togus Springs Hospice Unit as the result of a long battle with COPD. He was born Nov. 19, 1946, in Island Falls, the son of Lester Sr. and Blanche (Prince) Drew.
Peter grew up in Oakfield and graduated from Oakfield High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran serving two tours in Vietnam as a corporal. He worked for the Dept. of Corrections in Bucks Harbor taking early retirement do to his ailment and then they returned to his hometown after 30 years. He married Shirley Briggs in 1970 and they had two daughters. He was a life member of the Franklin Amvet Club and a member of the Frank B. Holden, American Legion Post VFW # 52 of Oakfield, where he was dedicated to erecting the Oakfield Veterans Monument.
Besides his father and his wife Marie and her seven children, he is survived by his wife Shirley of 46 years and their two daughters Holly Fitch and her husband Corey and Heidi Drew and her partner Missy Esty; two granddaughters Alissa Drew and Maura Fitch; a sister Patrice and her husband, Fred Tarr and a brother Mark and his wife, Melanie Drew; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and a brother Lester Drew Jr.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Sterling Lawrence Officiating. Interment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery.
