Easton girls keep winning
EASTON, Maine — The Bears’ late-season surge continued Thursday with a playoff victory.
Playing at home in the prelim round, Easton got past visiting Schenck of East Millinocket, 4-1, to roll into the next round against Penobscot Valley. That match is scheduled for this afternoon in Howland.
The Bears, ranked seventh in Class D North, were impressive in helping second-year coach Audra Fitzherbert gain her first career post-season coaching victory.
“We were frazzled for the first 10 minutes or so, I think because of the hype of a prelim game and hosting it,” Fitzherbert said, “but we are really keeping our pace and style of play up.”
Isabelle Morin had Easton’s first three goals, with Delia Bonner scoring off a Morin assist to secure the win with 5:26 to play. Summer Guess chipped in with an assist and goalkeeper Delaney Leach had eight saves on nine shots.
The Bears face a huge test in taking on No. 2 PVHS, a perennial soccer power, but Fitzherbert thinks the team is ready for the challenge.
“We are going all in and giving our best effort,” she said. “We know it’s a higher-seeded team and we are really going to have to bring it, but we’ll continue with our style of play and our game plan.”
Easton has now won its last seven matches and is 8-6-1 overall.
