PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace begins on Nov. 1 and will end on Jan. 31, 2017. The Aroostook County Action Program Inc. has planned a series of free public sessions for those who need assistance signing up for their 2017 coverage.
Outreach events for enrollment have been scheduled in the following locations: Madawaska – Nov 19, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 88 Fox St.; Presque Isle – Dec. 14, 5-7 p.m., 771 Main St.; and Fort Kent, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 40 Alfalfa Ave.
ACAP is part of the Community Action Navigator Consortium and is a partner in a statewide network of certified Health Insurance Marketplace navigators, who help people apply for and enroll in coverage through the marketplace.
Those who do not apply for coverage during open enrollment will have to wait until the next open enrollment period. Those who are already enrolled but wish to change plans must act by Dec. 15 in order for new coverage to start on Jan. 1.
“Health insurance plans in the Marketplace can be very affordable,” said Dawn Roberts, health care navigator and community education specialist at ACAP. “A family of two can make up to $64,080 and still receive a premium tax credit to help pay insurance premiums. ACAP is not affiliated with any insurance company so we provide fair and unbiased advice.”
Navigators can help consumers access programs that could lower their monthly health premiums and out-of pocket costs and understand available options.
“Your private information is protected and ACAP will never share it with anybody,” Roberts said.
