 Character assassination

To the editor:

This letter is in response to Larry Shea’s lengthy letter comparing Bill and Hillary Clinton to the ruthless Macbeth and his conniving wife, Lady Macbeth.

The comparison to Shakespeare’s murderous duo is outrageous. Who did Bill Clinton kill in order to become president? He defeated President H.W. Bush fair and square in 1992. The two former presidents have since developed a friendly relationship; in fact, they served on a few special missions for President George W. Bush.

As Barbara Bush did, Hillary Clinton wholeheartedly supported her husband in his quest for Commander—“in-chief. Both campaigned vigorously but respectfully for their husbands. The suggestion that Hillary coerced her husband to assassinate President Bush in order to become president is equally preposterous. In 1996 First Lady Hillary Clinton again lent her full support to her husband in his re-election bid against Senator Bob Dole. Both Clintons acknowledged the senator’s heroic war record and concentrated on the issues.

Shea imitates Republican nominee Donald Trump in his rant against the Clintons. The important issues be damned; character assassination is the order of the day. This libelous diatribe totally ignores Hillary’s total dedication to the Children’s Defense Fund, where she fought for equal rights for under-privileged children and her leadership in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which provides coverage for ten million children. Her record as U.S senator from New York was likewise impressive in its scope and relevance. She worked well with GOP colleagues on many issues benefitting children and families. She was re-elected with 67 percent of the vote.

Please vote for Hillary Clinton on November 8.

Rep. White is responsive to voters

To the editor:

For several reasons, Dustin White will once again have my vote for State Representative on November 8th. As one of Rep. White’s constituents, I have called him and emailed him many times. Over the last two years, I have had multiple occasions where his assistance was needed. Not only did Rep. White respond to my questions, concerns and issues, but he always did so in a timely fashion.

I gave birth to my fourth child in September of 2014. We chose to have an unassisted childbirth at our home. Everything went smoothly, until we needed to get a birth certificate from the State of Maine. Even though I had all of the evidence required, I was denied a birth certificate because there was not a “medical professional” present at the birth. The gentleman in charge of vital records at the State level wouldn’t even help me and implied I had stolen my son. Rep. White made the necessary calls and we were finally able to get my son his birth certificate.

Rep. White may not always agree with my political beliefs or decisions, but he represents all of his constituents, not just those that belong to his own party. When the State of Maine denied a birth certificate due to a home birth, Rep. White fought for me.

Rep. White understands the importance of allowing people the right to make their own decisions and the freedom to make our own choices. I am voting for Rep. Dustin White because I want the people who make our laws to respect our freedom to make the best choices for our families.

Lots wrong with election process

To the editor:

It seems to me that the local political ads are worse than ever this year. We have seen loggers who don’t know what the Tree Growth Program is, but know that a Wall Street millionaire doesn’t cut trees. We have seen an old General who thinks there are lobstermen in northern Maine. The General should be embarrassed and the people who used him for the commercial should be ashamed. But, maybe, they were in the military and didn’t like officers.

Then we have police chiefs who think they know all about Question 3 and have gone so far as to accuse the “No on 3” crowd of not giving the real facts. I wonder if the Chiefs have read about Question 3. They can go to UBCBad ForMe.com to get the facts and concerns. I have heard that some of the “Yes on 3’ spokesmen in the ads are paid by some of the Bloomberg organizations. Shouldn’t the public be informed about this? Maybe it is in the fine print that no one can read.

Then, class envy rears it’s ugly head. One candidate slams the other for being a “Wall Street millionaire.” Is that a bad thing? It’s the case of “my rich people are better than your rich people.” Please don’t tell me what your opponent has done, tell me what you are going to do and how you are going to do it and please don’t sound like a bumper sticker.

We need serious campaign reform. Let’s shorten the season to six months or less. If you want to run for a higher office, you need to resign, and the governor will appoint someone to fulfill your term. You want to change parties after being elected? You resign and the governor fills your position with someone from the same party.

We should also get rid of all the political signs. There are so many in some areas that I doubt anyone can read them. What a waste of resources. I wonder what the carbon footprint is of a Presidential candidate? A shorter campaign season would certainly make it smaller.

Remember the “McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform”? How’s that working out? They must be proud of all the money that has been removed from the campaign.

The end of the beginning

To the editor:

The once colorful foliage of autumn has been stripped from its branches. Dried and parched it lies scattered upon the ground.

Can it be our lives too are dried and empty in this season? That our well has become dry?

In the past, afraid to speak out we remained silent and changes we never thought would take place in our nation happened and were written into laws.

Satan, in his subtle ways, is again out to make unprecedented changes that will affect our nation, our very lives Big Time!

November 8th is fast approaching and crucial issues are on the ballot. Though we may not have the best of candidates to choose from, we still have the freedom to place our X’s in the boxes of candidates we think will do the most good to defend life, liberty and the truth of God’s principles to live by.

Let the Master fill us with His living water. Let us pray fervently for His guidance to make the right choices. The year 2016 is coming to an end. 2017 begins a New Year. Will you be able to say, “I made a difference in its outcome?”
