The Mapleton Parent Organization is getting ready for their biggest fall event, the Scholastic Book Fair called “Bookaneer: Where books are the treasure,” which features everything pirates, gold, treasure chest and plenty of pirate talk.
Encouraging the love of reading is one of the great treasures families can foster in young children. The fair will be open to the public Nov. 14-17 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and also evening hours on Nov. 17 from 5-7 p.m.
Come to the fair and take a journey into open books. Look for swashbuckling titles that will excite both you and your young reader.
Snowmobile Club Board
The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club will hold their November Board of Directors meeting tonight, Nov. 2, at the clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. Soon the heavy winter snows will arrive and the fun will begin. There will be more than a meeting tonight, as this is a work night to prepare for the coming winter snows.
The work of the club members is critical for the care of the snowmobile trail system. Grooming and maintaining the trails requires many volunteers as well as the caring and maintenance of the clubhouse. Consider joining the club and pitching in some volunteer time. Stop by and see what is happening. Join in if you can.

Workshop a Success
On Saturday, Oct. 22, several community ladies turned out for a fun and enjoyable Christmas Crafts Workshop held at the haystack Historical Museum.
Lisa Shepard, an active crafter, led all those attending in the construction of a miniature lighted Santa Claus house. Also, everyone had the opportunity to design an elegant Christmas greeting card and personalize as desired.
Additionally a special guest stopped in and brought him the Christmas spirit: Santa himself took time from his vacation to come and make a card and Santa house. Alice Shepard, society president, commented she “was pleased with the turnout and the fun everyone seemed to have at the workshop.” She was especially happy with Santa’s surprise visit to the museum.
This workshop concluded the Haystack Historical Society’s 2016 year of workshops and activities.
“The Society is already planning the 2017 spring tea and craft workshop, as well as other activities for the year,” said Shepard.
The society wishes to thank all the businesses, volunteers and workshop participants who made the museum’s 2016 year exciting, and looks forward to re-starting for the new year next March.
