CARMAN, Herman W., Jr., 91, Wade, October 28, 2016. A Memorial Service was held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.
WADE – Herman W. Carman, Jr., 91, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, surrounded by his family and their love at his home. He was born in Washburn, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Lizzie) (Russell) Carman, Sr.
Herman was a U.S. Army Combat Medic during WW II’s Pacific Theatre, serving in the 1st Cavalry, where he earned a Bronze Star for his heroism. He was not only a hero on the battlefield but he was also a hero in his children’s and grandchildren’s eyes.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Linwood and Judy Carman of Versailles, MO, Rita Giddings of Saco, Nancy Gildert of Wade, Connie and Roger Gagnon of Washburn, Sally and Keith Benoit of Pawleys Island, SC, Lottie and JR Doody of Wade, Allison and Greg Page of Wade; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He will also be missed by two sisters-in-law, Winnie Pate and her husband, Jimmy, and Eunice Carman; a brother-in-law, Dale Whitten; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Herman was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Della Carman; 11 brothers and sisters; and two sons-in-law, Harvey Giddings Jr. and Steven Gildert.
Friends and family called on Tuesday, November 1, from noon to 1 p.m., at Duncan Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, where a Memorial Service was held at 1 p.m. Interment was at Crouseville Cemetery following services with military honors.
