HOULTON — Terry Leigh Saunders, 74, died on October 26, 2016, in Houlton. He was born January 1, 1942 in Houlton, the son of Ralph & Joyce (Lambert) Saunders. Terry graduated from Houlton High School in 1960, attended the University of Maine-Orono and graduated from the University of Tampa. He was a SSgt. in the U.S. Air Force where he served 12 years and completed tours of duty in Vietnam and Guam. Terry was an excellent chess player and at one time was flown all over the country by the USAF to compete in chess tournaments. Terry owned and operated Trolley Car Ceramics in Las Vegas, then became a massage therapist, studying in China. He spent a year volunteering in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.
Terry is survived by his daughter, Darcy Leigh Saunders of Dallas, TX; his sister, Penny (Saunders) Nevers of Houlton; two nephews, Gregory and Christopher Nevers and two close friends, Philip Herrick and David Vincent. He was predeceased by his parents; paternal grandparents, Blake and Dora Saunders; maternal grandparents, Milton and Mildred Lambert.

Friends may call 12-1 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Oakfield where funeral services with full military honors will be held 1 p.m. with Pastor Sterling Lawrence officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Houlton.
