TURNER, Bert, 100, Washburn, at Presque Isle, November 1, 2016. Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 5, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
WASHBURN — Bert Turner, 100, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Presque Isle.
He was born March 3, 1916, in Washburn, the son of the late Scott and Mary (Libby) Turner. Bert and his brother, Guy, took over the family farm in 1937 and farmed together for 40 years before retiring in 1977. Bert was well respected in the community having served on many Boards and on Washburn’s Town Council for 24 years. Bert will be well remembered as a man of impeccable character and self-discipline who was patient and kind with a gentle spirit, a sunny disposition, a good sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his wife and family.
Bert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Margaret (Sutherland) Turner in 2004; son, Dale in 2010; brother, Guy in 2005; brother, Glen in 2002; and son-in-law, Jerry Burnette in 2013.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Lorraine McMullen and husband, Mike of Fairport, N.Y., Jeannie Burnette of Bolt, W. Va.; daughter-in-law, Cindi Turner of Washburn; nine grandchildren: Ward Turner, Washburn; Tyler Turner and wife, Julie of Standish; Melanie Krum and husband, Scott of Scarborough; Heidi McMullen, East Rochester,N.Y.; Craig McMullen and wife, Jennifer, Victor, N.Y.; Bryan McMullen and wife, Beth, East Rochester, N.Y.; Tony Burnette and wife, Sharon of LaPlata, Md; Marcie Klingenberg and husband, Hal of Jeffersonville, Ky; Jeremy Burnette and wife, Leanna of Posey Saxon, W.VA.; 25 adoring great-grandchildren; several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, Sat., Nov. 5, 2016, from noon until time of services which were held at 1 p.m. from the funeral home with Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery, Washburn. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Bert may do so through Soul’s Harbor, Inc. P.O.
