Consignment sale offers formal wear

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The United Way will hold its first annual Sell, Share and Support consignment sale at the Aroostook Centre Mall on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Special VIP shoppers can enter the venue at 9 a.m. Saturday for a $10 VIP fee, and then the doors officially open at 10 a.m. for general admission of $2.

The sale will feature “gently worn” prom/pageant gowns, dance costumes, wedding dresses and accessories in a space next to Olympia Sports in the mall. In addition to formal wear, there will be freeze modeling, giveaways and a raffle.

“We are looking at this as a win for four great causes,” said United Way of Aroostook Executive Director Sherry Locke. “Girls are able to sell some of their formal wear, others are able to choose their next special dress at a lower cost than purchasing it new, the United Way will earn 25 percent of each sale, and any unsold dresses can be donated to Becca’s Closet in Houlton.”

Becca’s Closet is a national organization that accepts gently used prom dresses for girls to borrow, free of charge, so they might be able to attend their proms when they wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

Anyone wanting to sell their formal wear and accessories may drop them off at the location next to Olympia Sports on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and Thursday, Nov. 17, between 3 and 6 p.m.

Consignor guidelines and information forms may be picked up at the Aroostook Centre Mall’s customer service desk or printed by visiting the United Way of Aroostook’s Facebook Page.
