PRESQUE ISLE and BANGOR — The Presque Isle-based financial services firm of Thompson-Hamel LLC, which was originally founded in 1962, has announced it has reached an agreement to purchase the Bangor-based Farrington Financial Group.

Farrington Financial Group was founded in 1971 by well-respected Bangor businessman Frank Farrington. Both of these firms have long been affiliated with Lincoln, Nebraska-based Ameritas Life Insurance Company and Ameritas Investment Corporation, providing estate and retirement planning, investment and insurance services, while Thompson-Hamel also provides payroll processing services to its clients throughout Maine.

Brian Hamel, managing partner of Thompson-Hamel, said the client base they will acquire with the purchase includes customers from Fort Kent to southern Maine.

“We are honored Frank Farrington has entrusted Thompson-Hamel LLC with his client base, and we wish Frank well in retirement,” Hamel said.

“We have a great deal of respect for Frank and his family, and we are looking forward to servicing Frank’s clients with the same level of professionalism, integrity, honesty, work ethic and competency his clients have come to expect. These same attributes are the cornerstone of how Thompson-Hamel LLC operates its business.”

“It is extremely important to me that my valued and long-standing clients continue to be serviced by well-trusted, respected and competent professionals,” said Farrington. “I have known the founder of Thompson-Hamel LLC, Art Thompson, for decades, and I have a great deal of respect for Art and have been impressed with the succession plan he has put in place with Brian Hamel and Bryan Thompson to carry on the legacy he has created since 1962.

“We share the same commitment to excellence to our clients, and I’m confident the Thompson-Hamel team will create long-standing and successful relationships with my clients,” Farrington said.

Thompson-Hamel will open an office at Farrington’s current location, 27 State Street, Suite 21 in Bangor, which will have full-time support staff and an active presence by Hamel, who owns a home in Bangor, and business partner Bryan Thompson.

Hamel is an investment adviser representative, Series 7 registered securities representative and licensed life and health broker, while Bryan Thompson is a Series 6 registered securities representative and licensed life and health broker.

Hamel said, “We are looking forward to getting to know Frank’s clients and meeting their financial needs for years to come.”
