Easton Elementary School showed their support for the Francis Malcolm Science Center by hosting the Star Challenge fundraiser Oct. 14-28.
Pre-K through grade six classes competed to win a trip to the science center for an ice cream party and planetarium show by selling stars to their family and friends. The three students selling the most stars won a telescope and all students selling six or more stars earned prizes.
The challenge was introduced to the students in a skit performed by Planetarium Director Larry Berz and Bryan Lawrence whose characters, Sammy the Star and James T. Stargazer, meet on an unknown planet. Sammy explains that he is trying to find a ride to Earth because he received a message from the science center that they need help. Captain Stargazer agrees to take him in his rocket. After blasting off, they land at the school and invite the students to participate in the Star Challenge.
On Nov. 4, Berz and Lawrence were presented a check representing the money raised by the students in the amount $2,105.
