HOULTON, Maine — With many thanks from fellow pastors, Rev. Dale Holden will step down as chairperson of the Southern Aroostook Ministerial Association (SAMA) after many years of service due to other obligations.
Rev. Albert Burleigh, commonly known around town as “Deacon Al,” will begin serving as chairperson starting in January 2017. The annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service planned by SAMA members will take place at St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m.
Programs by the various churches to serve those in need in our community will be featured. All are welcome and asked to bring nonperishable food items for local food pantries. Food and fellowship will follow the service.
SAMA has been an integral part of the Houlton community since the 1950s. Participating churches are: First Baptist, First Congregational, Good Shepherd Episcopal, Church on the Hill/Military Street Baptist, Quaker Worship Group, St. Mary’s Catholic, Salvation Army, United Methodist Houlton and Hodgdon, and Unitarian Universalist.
