HOULTON, Maine — The Health Services Foundation will hold “A Christmas Festival” from Nov. 21 to Dec. 2, 2016 throughout the main concourse and other nearby areas of Houlton Regional Hospital.

“We are so excited this year to showcase for our community not only beautiful Christmas trees, but wreaths, and other decorations as well,” said Elizabeth Dulin, Foundation executive director. “Proceeds will assist with the necessary funding for Phase II of the Foundation’s current $350,000 campaign to provide 24 pieces of equipment for 12 hospital departments.”

To open this event “A Simple Gathering” will be held on Monday, Nov. 21 from 1-3 p.m. at the hospital with light refreshments. At 3 p.m., a drawing will take place for three special items — “The Polar Express” hardcover book with replica bell and “believe” ticket; a “Snowman” holiday print and a two book set of “The Night Before Christmas” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” with a Santa Claus pillow. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and may be purchased at the Foundation Office.

Holiday trees committed by donors include; Bryan Buhler, “Christmas Spirit”; Chester M. Kearney, “Sugar and Spice”; Cub Scout Pack 205-Patten, “Old Fashioned Christmas”; Dead River Company, “Company Colors”; East Grand Health Center, “A Sweet White Christmas”; Friends and Needles Quilt Guild, “Quilting and Stitchery”; Katahdin Trust Company, “A Country Christmas”; Katahdin Valley Health Center, “Creating Healthy Communities”; Smith and Wesson “Hunting”; TD Bank, “Company Colors”; Walmart, “Holiday Delight”; Houlton Regional Hospital Departments: administration, “A White Christmas”; Health Information Management/Admitting, “Angels”; Housekeeping, “Home for the Holidays”; Lab, “Memory of Violent Crime Victims”, Radiology, “A Peacock Christmas.”

Festive Wreaths from the following: Anonymous, F. A. Peabody, Houlton Pioneer Times, Houlton U.S. Post Office, Machias Savings Bank, Houlton Regional Hospital Departments: Admitting/Health Information Management, Cardiac Rehab, Dietary (2), Internal Medicine, other additions are a personal table top selection by Salli Graham, and hospital’s Positive Steps with a locally made “Wooden Snowman”. The Foundation will have a special Gift Card Tree with other items included in that presentation as well.

“A secret surprise of six secret, beautiful pieces of jewelry (from Walter Goodrich) will be randomly assigned to an event presentation,” Dulin said. “The winner may not only receive a beautiful Christmas decoration, but a secret piece of jewelry as well. It’s holiday sparkle that is sure to please.”

A Silent Auction will also be held with a number of designer Santas being offered. These Santas were a generous donation to the Foundation from the Sturbridge Yankee Workshop in Portland. Additional items from this company will become part of the Festival’s tree decorations.

Tickets for all the beautiful holiday items during the Christmas Festival are $2. Each and can be purchased at the Foundation Office.

Phase II supports funding for ambulatory surgery, cardiac rehab, emergency room, obstetrics/delivery, operating room and physical/occupational therapy. It is the objective of the Foundation to assist Houlton Regional with all their funding requests, within its financial ability, and given the rural nature of The County makes it imperative the hospital be as state-of-the-art as possible, providing medical services close to home for all those in need, said Dulin.

“We hope everyone will stop by and see all the amazing holiday pieces that will be showcased to make this a very beautiful event in support of the hospital. We are so incredibly grateful for such an outpouring of generosity for this holiday season,” she said.
