Rachel Driscoll was named Business Student of the Quarter, selected by Mrs. White. Rachel attends Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center from Washburn District High School and is a second-year student in the business program.

According to Mrs. White, she comes to class each and every day prepared to work, always with a smile on her face.  Mr. Curtis arranged for Rachel Driscoll to take additional accounting courses through NMCC this year. Rachel is doing an online accounting class during part of her afternoon at PIRCTC. She is also taking Introduction to Business and Customer Service, and will take an additional online offering through NMCC starting very soon.
During the three-period course offering, Rachel is taking four classes. Mrs. White said she is very diligent to complete all of her work at an excellent level, with an A average in all of her courses. She is not afraid to take work home with her to ensure that she is meeting the rigorous demands of this schedule.
Upon graduating from high school, Rachel will have a total of 35 college credits through the dual enrollment program, saving money and also finishing a dual major at NMCC in just a year after high school.
She plans to attend NMCC and major in both business administration and accounting.

A little kindness from kindergarten

Mrs. Skinner’s kindergarten students at the David J. Lyon Washburn District Elementary School collected non-perishable food items for two weeks in November. Each day they counted and sorted items that came in and at the end of two weeks added up the total number of items brought in. Then they bagged up their items and walked them to the Washburn Town Office.
Once there, the food items will be placed in holiday boxes to give to those in need. This Giving Basket project, a hands-on way to teach compassion and kindness, started many years ago with retired teacher Jackie Pribble and is now a kindergarten tradition.
