Auxiliary hosts coloring contest for second-graders

CARIBOU, Maine — Hilltop second-graders presented local veterans with coloring pages and sang songs during an event held in the Maine Veterans Home on Nov. 10.

The annual visit helps lift the spirits of local veterans, and the presentation resulted in smiles from residents of the home.

All students received a book on flag etiquette, a patriotic coloring book, a participation certificate, and an american flag while the first second, and third place winners received a monetary award.

“First of all we would like to thank the teachers at Hilltop for allowing us to do our program each year,” said VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9389 Patricia Edgecomb. “We would also like to thank the Maine Veterans Home for allowing us to come here with these students to honor our veterans. We want these students to know about patriotism and that it’s because of these veterans that we have the freedoms that we enjoy today. Thank you for your service.”
