PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Current students, faculty and staff at Northern Maine Community College brought the campus to life on a recent Friday morning for the college’s open house.
Students from each of the programs set up informational displays and spoke one-on-one to prospective students about their programs and gave demonstrations in various labs and classrooms.
“Students did a wonderful job of educating visitors about programs and discussing the college from their perspective,” said Dean of Students Dr. William Egeler. “Our students are very proud of attending NMCC and wanted everyone to know the quality of education they receive here.”
Over 100 prospective students traveled to the Oct. 14 event from throughout Aroostook County while many made the trip from central and southern Maine.
“I was very pleased with the number of students and guests that walked through the doors for our Open House this year,” said Wendy Bradstreet, interim director of admissions. “It is evident from the number of students who came for instant decisions, to the out-of-area students who arrived bright and early to visit specific programs that the reputation we have for delivering quality programs is growing, not only in our own region but throughout the state as well.”
This is the second open house in the last two years at the college. In recent years, many of the programs in the Trade and Technical Department have gone through significant changes and improvements including, but not limited to, a newly installed down-draft paint booth in the Auto Collision Repair lab, a One-Button Studio in the library, a completely remodeled welding shop, and a 3D laser scanner and printer in the Engineering Design Technology room.
Faculty members said they enjoy having potential students tour the state-of-the-art facilities and see the areas that most people don’t have the opportunity to explore.
