The Viking eighth-grade boys’ basketball team won their third consecutive game to begin the season last Tuesday, but then lost for the first time Saturday in Houlton.
Caribou bested Presque Isle at home, 54-37, with Sawyer Deprey’s 14 points leading a balanced offense. Zack Madore and Carter Quist tossed in nine points each, Riley Bouchard totaled six and Ethan Holdsworth and Brevin Barnes added five each. Bouchard and Miles Collier were the defensive standouts.
In a 44-43 loss to Houlton, the Shires height advantage combined with Caribou’s cold shooting down the stretch were major factors. Bouchard fired in 17 points, while Deprey had eight and Caleb Espling and Holdsworth seven each. Matt Smith played well on the defensive end and rebounded well.
