Aroostook Aspirations Initiative announces WAGM partnership

PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Aspirations Initiative recently recognized what it calls a sustaining strategic partnership with WAGM-TV of Presque Isle as part of the nonprofit’s mission to join forces with County businesses and companies for the good of local students.

Sustaining strategic partners commit to the sustainability of Aroostook Aspirations Initiative with a financial contribution over a five-year period. WAGM, one of six partners that
have pledged their support to the initiative, is currently in its second year of the partnership.

Every contribution received from the sustaining partners allows AAI to continue awarding scholarships to local high school students aspiring to attend college and work in The County. Contributions also go toward programing and the development of sustainable fundraising activities.

As part of the partnership, WAGM receives a Gauvin Scholar in their name. The 2016 WAGM Gauvin Scholar is Meghan Everitt of Fort Fairfield. Everitt is currently in her freshman year at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Kelly Landeen, vice president and general manager of the television station, considers the company’s partnership with Aroostook Aspirations Initiative a valuable one for the next generation of County scholars and business leaders.

“The future of our region is our youth,” Landeen said. “Our duty as business leaders is to pursue ways that will entice them to stay in The County and grow their futures here. Aroostook Aspiration’s incentive certainly personifies this philosophy.

“WAGM is proud to support Aroostook Aspirations as they encourage and guide our youth on their journey into adulthood and show them that they do not need to leave the area to make a living and raise a family,” Landeen said.

Sustaining strategic partnerships help AAI move forward in their mission to aid Aroostook County’s economic growth by investing in the next generation.
