CARIBOU, Maine — There was a first-time overall winner in the Caribou Turkey Trot 5K road race, held Saturday in the snow.
Sixteen-year-old Evan Desmond of Caribou claimed the top spot by finishing the course in 19 minutes and 15.3 seconds. He came in 19.6 seconds ahead of runner-up Trevor Levesque of Presque Isle (19:34.9).
The overall top five was rounded out by Caleb Chapman (20:11.9), Thomas Krause (20:12.3) and Bruce Clark (20:50.5).
Nabbing the women’s title was Kimberley Wright of Mapleton, who recorded a time of 22:20.1.
Following Wright in the female division was Brittany Grass in 22:44.6 and Amy Condon in 23:32.
The fastest walker was Nadeen Plourde of Caribou with a time of 45:51.3.
The starting and finishing line was at Caribou High School as the course took participants out onto Woodland Center Road and Lombard Road and back. A total of 53 runners and six walkers took part in the annual event.
Division winners were: 14-and-under female, Kerri-Elizabeth Robinson (29:55.6); 15-18 female, Madeline Gudde (24:54.7); 19-29 female, Grass; 30-39 female, Condon; 40-49 female, Heidi Bartley (29:59.7); 50-59 female, Wright; 60-69 female, Connie McLellan (29:49.4); 14-and-under male, George J. Ferland (27:36.6); 15-18 male, Desmond; 19-29 male, Levesque; 30-39 male, Alan Ferguson (25:58.6); 40-49 male, Steve Desmond (21:24.8); 50-59 male, Clark (20:50.5); 60-69 male, Lee Byram (24:26) and 70-and-over male, Jim Nesbitt (29:20).
