Credit union launches ‘Hope for the Holidays’

MADAWASKA, Maine NorState Federal Credit Union’s 13th annual Hope for the Holidays Food Drive is ongoing now through Dec. 31.

Individuals and groups may donate non-perishable food items and drop them off at over 23 local organizations or at any NorState location — Eagle Lake, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Ashland, Presque Isle or Van Buren.
Denise Duperre, a longtime advocate for the food drive and executive marketing director of NorState FCU, said, “We have partnered with Channel X Radio once again to bring you the annual food drive. We are thankful that our co-sponsor will be broadcasting daily and weekly updates through the airwaves and assisting us in raising awareness about this ever increasing need in our communities.
“This is a big undertaking,” Duperre said, “and many volunteer hours and generous donors help in stocking the shelves of our food pantries, that most often times, see a higher demand to feed our friends and neighbors because of heating or medical expenses this time of year.”
“Since 1999, NorState FCU has distributed over $255,000 and collected over 82,000 pounds of nonperishable food items for our local pantries,” said Susan G. Whitehead, CEO. Working together to make sure that no one goes without food in northern Maine is instrumental in the fight to end hunger locally.”
Donations of nonperishable food items may be dropped off at the following local sites during normal business hours.
Presque Isle: NorState FCU.
Ashland: NorState FCU, Ashland Foodmart, Congregational Church, St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
