Owl soccer players recognized

Nine University of Maine at Presque Isle soccer players were recently honored by the Association of Division III Independents.

Representing the men’s team were senior Derek Healy, who made the first team, and freshman Matt Curtis, junior Matthew Manter and senior Dan Swallow, who all were selected to the third team.
For the women, senior Carla Halvorson, junior Sam Nadeau and freshman Deliah Schrieber earned first-team honors while juniors Jessy Dickison and Allison Lopez made the third team.
Healy led the Owls in goals with 13 and also contributed three assists. Curtis started 17 of 18 games and was a key component of UMPI’s defense, while Manter compiled 131 saves with a 69.7 save percentage and Swallow was a leader of the Owl defense and added a goal and an assist.
Halvorson led the UMPI women in goals with 13 out of a midfield position. She had two game-winning goals on the season and dished out three assists. Nadeau made the transition to defense this season, but still chipped in with four goals (two of them game-winners) and five assists. Schrieber played midfield and was second on the Owls with 10 goals. She also had a pair of game-winners.
Dickison was selected as a midfielder and scored a goal while assisting on three others. Lopez tallied 105 saves and had a pair of shutouts. Her save percentage was 67.7.
