SAMHA report

Young skaters in the Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association had a busy time on the ice during Thanksgiving weekend.

Yorks of Houlton Atoms played a home game Saturday with a loss to Victoria/Tobique; a scrimmage at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon and another at home Sunday afternoon were hard played losses.

The Aroostook Auto Tech Peewees played on their home ice Saturday hosting the peewee team from St. Leonard. The first period started with Maddie Marino scoring an unassisted goal with her first strides off the bench. Less than two minutes later St. Leonard evened the score to 1-1.

The second period proved to be a high scoring period with an unassisted goal scored by defenseman Jed Gilpatrick from the blue line, one by Josh McGillicuddy assisted by Elijah Neureuther and an unassisted goal by Garrett Fitzpatrick. Again St Leonard answered each goal with putting four more on the board ending the second period with a 5-4 lead over Houlton.

The third period was a tough battle for the SAMHA peewees, Fitzpatrick was able to get one past the goalie for an unassisted goal followed by a goal scored by Marino assisted by Neureuther. While St. Leonard also put to more goals on the board.

With St. Leonard up by one with the time running out, Coach Mitch Holmes pulled goalie, Ciaran Johnson allowing an extra player on the ice for Houlton. Both teams saw themselves on the wrong side of the penalty box more than they would’ve liked and both goalies were faced with many shots on net. To no avail, the game ended with a one point disadvantage to St. Leonard leaving the score with a loss 7-6 for Houlton.

Next weekend the Aroostook Auto Tech Peewees will be host to Victoria/Tobique Saturday at 10:30 at the John A. Millar Civic Center!

The Varney Agency Bantams were off this weekend and are away next weekend. Westerdahl Novice team at home Saturday, Dec. 3, at noon and on the road Sunday, at 8:15 a.m. at Woodstock.
