Dress drive a massive success

United Way effort brings in over 420 gowns and costumes

The United Way of Aroostook’s first ever Sell, Share & Support was a success due to the efforts of many shoppers, consignors, and volunteers. The organization expected 100-150 dresses to be brought to the sale for consignment, but on opening sale day, November 19th, the former Claire’s location at the Aroostook Centre Mall had over 420 dresses and dance costumes! According to UWA Executive Director Sherry Locke, shoppers at the mall enjoyed stopping by to see what was being offered and ladies of all ages stopped in to pick up beautiful dresses at rock-bottom prices. In fact, United Way organizers were so pleased with the event, they extended the sale for another weekend, ending on Sunday, Nov. 27th.

United Way of Aroostook’s first ever Sell, Share & Support, held Nov. 19-27, was a success due to the efforts of many shoppers, consignors, and volunteers. Many consignors generously donated their unsold dresses to the United Way, who in turn donated them to Becca’s Closet, a national organization that provides formal wear to girls who would be unable to attend their school proms due to the cost.      “We couldn’t have done this without the help of our volunteers,” said Locke. “Our local queens, some of the moms, members from our partner agencies, and even some family members stepped up to the plate to make our event extra special.”

“Seeing so many people come out to support the United Way and Becca’s Closet is just great. We are so thankful to be in such a caring community,” said Locke.
