Bring back the old format

To the editor:

I am enclosing a format as to what I think a Caribou Winter Carnival can be. I would like to have you print this format in your paper so that everyone can see what a Winter Carnival can do for Caribou. We don’t have many activities in the winter months and having a Winter Carnival would certainly be one of them and often spoken of.

Caribou is an ideal location for a Winter Carnival. We have the location, have experienced having many Winter Carnivals over the years and the dates we have used in the past are ideal. Also we are probably one of the few communities that have promoted a Winter Carnival.

Here are some of the things we can do:

     1. Caribou Winter Carnival Queen candidates can be sponsored by local businesses.

     2. Select a number of candidates and have an afternoon tea and invite the judges.

     3. A Winter Carnival Ball honoring the Queen.

     4. Sportsmen’s Banquet with an outstanding sports figure as a speaker inviting Game Wardens from the local area.

     5. Menu suited for the occassion such as deer meat, etc.

     6. Ski races at Teague Park such as 100 dash, and others. Winter races decided upon by the committee.

     7. A marathon from Van Buren to Caribou or whatever the distance would be decided by the committee.

     8. Snow sculpturing done by the classes in the schools and offering prizes.

     9. Have a skating rink built so that the rink could be used by local citizens, Carnival activities and school activities as well.

It is important that we have the Caribou Winter Carnival to let the local citizens know that we have leadership in Caribou and that the Caribou Winter Carnival could be a real plus for Caribou.
