Shirley J. Pyle, age 77, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband and devoted children. She was born in Houlton, ME on September 28, 1939, the only daughter of Edith Roy. She was raised by her grandparents George and Pearl Fraser of Ludlow, ME.

After her grandfather’s death, she and her grandmother moved to Portland and she graduated from Portland High School in 1957 and from Zion Bible Institute in Providence, RI in 1960.

She was the Credit and Office Manager for W.T. Grant Company for many years and was employed by Kennebec Pediatrics and MaineGeneral Health Associates (MGHA) as an Office Manager and Practice Administrator for 27 years, retiring in 2004. She loved assisting patients and one of her great passions was advocating for patients and employees.

A very wise and dearly loved woman tried to teach her to “stop and smell the roses” and she spent much of her time trying to get others to do the same. She was also infamous for her many practical jokes which were usually a cause for lots of laughter. Occasionally, however, people would try to get even. She was very fond of many of the patients at Kennebec Pediatrics and, one in particular, Jason Chapman, who predeceased her. She had a great admiration for the physicians of Kennebec Pediatrics and MGHA, especially Drs. T.M. Russell, T.J. Sheehan, Sydney Sewall, Barbara Crowley, Kieran Kammerer, Alice Noori and Stephen Meister. She owes a debt of gratitude to her longtime friends and mentors Jodi Beck, Lauret Crommett, Peggy Davis, Barbara Dostie, Judi Hawkes, Kathy Kimball, Joan Marson, Paula Marshall, Viki O’Neal and Judy Ricker. The real passion of her life was her faith in God, her husband and her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, where she taught Sunday School and coordinated the Women’s Ministries for several years. Her faith in God and love and devotion to Him were evident to everyone and she spent much of her time sending cards of encouragement and praying for others. We are confident that she is in His presence now. Her favorite scripture was Nahum 1:7: “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble and He knows them that trust in Him.” She leaves behind many dear Church friends whom she cherished.

She was pre-deceased by her mother, Edith (Fraser) Roy and her grandparents: George and Pearl Fraser. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald E. Pyle of Augusta; two sons: Kevin Pyle and his wife Sheryll of Powhatan, VA and Gregory Pyle and his wife Michelle of Monmouth; a daughter, Cynthia Waller and her husband John of Augusta; the treasures of her life, her grandchildren: Benjamin Pyle, Keenan Pyle, Quinn Pyle, Christine Waller, Allyson Waller and her step grandchildren John and Andrew Bobrowiecki; two brothers, Walfy Roy, Jr. and his companion Shelley Taylor of Monticello and Thomas Roy and his wife Sandra of Fremont, NH; her in-law’s and their families who were just like her own family: Marie Hamm of Mattawamkeag, Ron and Donna Pyle of Bucksport, Joyce and Dan McFate of Boise, ID, Larry Pyle and Daniel and Mary Pyle of Portland as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers and physicians she respected so much, Drs. Kevin Kane, Scott Schiffslater and Don Magioncalda to name a few.

Relatives and friends may visited on Monday, December 5th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 6th at 10 a.m. at the Kennebec Valley Assembly of God, Hallowell Rd., Chelsea. Burial and committal prayers followed in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
