The Aroostook Musterds Running Club will be presenting awards for its 34th County Challenge Series at The Par and Grill Restaurant in Caribou at 5 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 17.
Leo Kashian, a Musterds officer, kept track of accumulated points and athlete participation in eight county road races in determining the most consistent and stronger runners of all ages.
Points are awarded for overall and age group specific finishes for each of the races. Runners with the most points accumulated, regardless of the number of races completed, are recognized for their accomplishments. Participation awards for running a minimum of four series races are also presented. Additionally, the award for being chosen the Aroostook Musterd Runner of the Year will be handed out to a worthy recipient.
The eight Challenge Series races this year were the Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run (5K, Houlton), the UMPI Spring Runoff 5K, the S. W. Collins 5K (Caribou), the Musterd Mile (Caribou), the Potato Blossom 5-Miler (Fort Fairfield), the Caribou Labor Day Road Race (8K), The Caribou Marathon, Half, and Relay and the Caribou Turkey Trot (5K).
The series was founded in 1983 and then consisted of five races run in Fort Kent, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Presque Isle and Houlton, each race being five miles in length.
