Conference recognizes Caribou Viking athletes

     The Penobscot Valley Conference’s all-conference and all-academic teams have been announced for the fall sports season and Caribou High School had several athletes recognized.

     In Class B girls’ soccer, the Vikings’ Maddie Doucette and Searra Herbert made the first team along with Alex Allain, Brianna Saulter and Emi Higgins, all of Hermon; Paige Mason of MDI, Gina Cambria and Soleil Skehan, both of John Bapst; and Madison Michaud, Tori Koch and Savannah Rodriguez, all of Presque Isle.

     Hermon’s Allain was named Player of the Year and PI coach Ralph Michaud came away with Coach of the Year honors. Hope Shea of Caribou was voted to the second team. Other selections were Kayla Massey, Eilidh Sidaway and Gracie Phillipon, all of John Bapst; Olivia Wesley and Kendra Ewer, both of Foxcroft Academy; Oliviah Damboise of Old Town, LIndsey Dodge of Lee Academy/Stearns; Chloe Raymond and Maddie Curtis, both of Hermon; and Emily Wheaton of Presque Isle.

     For Class B boys, Andre Rossignol of Caribou captured first-team honors along with Logan Butera of Foxcroft Academy, Joe Grubb and Owen Mild, both of MDI; Colby Clarke of Ellsworth, James Peterson and Matt Leach, both of Hermon; Alvaro Valls, Paul Branch and Owen Lynch, both of John Bapst; and Nick Bartlett of Presque Isle.

     The second team consists of Alex Ezzy of Caribou, Khasen Lowe and Jake Kinney, both of Presque Isle; Trent Mahon of Ellsworth, Nick Ressel and Eli McDonnell, both of MDI; Levi Stedman of Foxcroft Academy, Tanner Ackley and Alex Mooney, both of John Bapst; Austin Sheehan of Old Town and Garrett Trask of Hermon.

     The boys’ Player of the Year was John Bapst’s Valls, while Pete McDonnell of John Bapst was the Coach of the Year.

     For the All-Academic team were, representing the Caribou girls were Kendra Furber, Kerrigan Manter, Rachel Soucy and Doucette. Rossignol made the boys’ All-Academic squad.

     Many Caribou cross country runners garnered Class B first team, second team or honorable mention recognition, as well as all-academic citation.

     The Vikings’ Katrina Salch earned a berth on the first team. Other first-team selections were Amanda Boyd and Sarah Hunt, both of John Bapst; Trinity Montigny of Ellsworth, Audree O’Meara of Old Town, Katelyn Osborne of MDI and Tiara Tardy of MDI.

     Simone Michaud and Ashley Violette, both of Caribou, were joined on the second team by Isabelle Jackson and Madison Jandreau, both of Presque Isle; Louise Chaplin and Emma Strong, both of MDI; and Caitlin MacPherson of Ellsworth.

     Four Viking girls received honorable mention. They were Emily Austin, Emma Belyea, Sarae Greenier and Madeline Gudde.

     On the boys’ side, Caribou’s Evan Desmond and Dylan Marrero are first-teamers. Others honored by the league on the first team were Matthew Frost of Ellsworth, Mackenzie Ladd and Ben Spear, both of John Bapst; Nick Reznick of MDI and Connor Poirier of Old Town.

     Second-team honorees include Alec Cyr of Caribou. along with Mark Berry and Matthew Shea, both of Ellsworth; Max Bartley of Presque Isle, Liam Higgins of MDI, Gavin McDonald of John Bapst and Hunter Willey of Old Town.

     The Vikings’ Kyle Boucher and Bryce Coffin were among those athletes gaining honorable mention.

     Six girls and one boy from Caribou made the Senior All-Academic team, which requires six semesters with a grade point average of 90 or better. They are Emma Belyea, Katelyn Clark, Madeline Gudde, Erin Kashian, Samantha Fortin and Simone Michaud for girls and Nicholas Alfaro for boys.

     Caribou did not have any golfers on the all-PVC team.
