MACHIAS, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team downed UM-Machias Monday, 68-62, to secure its second win of the season.

The two teams went back and forth  in this game all night, as the matchup would feature eight lead changes. Jordan Gillespie and Kevin Collins each hit three pointers at the end of the first half to put the Owls (2-4) up three at the break.
After briefly surrendering that lead in the second half, UMPI went on a 17-2 run over an eight-minute span that provided its biggest lead of the game. The 12-point margin was enough for the visiting team to hold on to as they fought off the comeback attempt by the host Clippers.
The Owls were efficient offensively, shooting 46.7 percent from the floor. Though the Clippers (4-6) outrebounded the Owls 39-29, UMPI went to the foul line 32 times and hit on 21 of those attempts.
Derek Healy connected on 11 of 13 free throws to end the night with 20 points. Kevin Collins had a strong showing by scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds, while Kim Collins ended with 14 points. Maurice Harris collected eight rebounds to go along with his eight points.
The Owls will face off against Colby College at Wieden Gymnasium tonight at 7 p.m.
