CARIBOU, Maine — Bishop Robert P. Deeley on Nov. 14, 2016 announced three priest assignments, including one who has joined the Parish of the Precious Blood, which serves Caribou, Presque Isle and surrounding communities.
Fr. Nehru Stephen Savayaria, HGN, comes to Aroostook County from the Heralds of Good News (HGN), a missionary society of apostolic life in India that specializes in the promotion of vocations to the priesthood. He has been appointed parochial vicar.
Born in Pinjivakkam Kandigai, India, he earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu, India. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 10, 2013, at Heralds of Good News Minor Seminary, also in Tamil Nadu.
Since his ordination, he been an assistant parish priest at St. Thomas Mount International Shrine in Chennai, India, which marks the burial place of St. Thomas, the apostle. He then was house superior at the Heralds of Good News Provincialate for two years before departing for his new assignment in Maine.
The Parish of the Precious Blood includes Holy Rosary Church, Caribou; St. Mary’s Church, Presque Isle; Our Lady of the Lake Church, Portage; Sacred Heart Church, Caribou; St. Catherine Church, Washburn; St. Denis Church, Fort Fairfield; St. Joseph Church, Mars Hill; St. Louis Church, Limestone; St. Mark Church, Ashland; and St. Theresa Church, Stockholm.
Also appointed were: Fr. Kingsly Reagan Kothakotta Yagappan, HGN, parochial vicar of Prince of Peace Parish (Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Holy Cross Church and Holy Family Church, all in Lewiston); and Fr. Dominic Azagbor, OP, parochial vicar of All Saints Parish (St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brunswick; St. John the Baptist Church, Brunswick; St. Mary Church, Bath; Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Boothbay Harbor; St. Ambrose Church, Richmond; St. Patrick Church, Newcastle; and St. Katharine Drexel Church, Harpswell).
