The Eagles won a low-scoring contest at Madawaska Friday, 32-27,providing Ben Arsenault with a victory to begin his LCS/MSSM coaching career. Alex Sprague scored 11 points, Mason Patten had eight and Victor Negron seven as the Eagle forged ahead in the final eight minutes after the game had been tied after three quarters.
Washburn made the trip north to Van Buren Friday and both teams won handily as girls’ coach Tyler Putnam and boys’ coach Mike Hartford prevailed in their coaching debuts.The girls captured a 50-12 win as freshman Maggie Castonguay poured in 19 points in her first varsity game. In the boys’ contest, senior McCall Turner had 22 points and teammates Quintin Thompson and Caleb Thompson added 12 each as the Beavers notched a 53-27 win.
The Caribou Vikings hosted John Bapst Saturday and in the first game, the Bapst girls outscored the Vikes 36-21 after halftime en route to a 67-48 triumph. Crystal Bell fired in 21 points for the winners and Gabrielle Marquis posted 12 to lead Caribou. The Viking boys were down by just five points at intermission but Bapst controlled the second half on its way to a 61-43 win. Freshmen Alex Bouchard and Parker Deprey had 15 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss. Tharen Hand had nine more. Alex Mooney netted 15 to pace the Crusaders.
The LCS/MSSM girls were stopped by Madawaska, 55-29. The Eagles had no answer for Jenna Dugal as the sophomore totaled 20 points. Fariel LaMountain had 12 to lead LCS/MSSM.
Fort Fairfield fell behind by 16 points after one period and lost to Southern Aroostook Friday, 67-33. Kacy Daggett, an eighth-grader, led SA with 20 points. Cammi King-DeMerchant scored nine for the Tigers.
