HOULTON, Maine — The start of Saturday’s hockey contest between the Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin Black Hawks and visiting Camden Hills Windjammers may have been delayed for about an hour by a scheduling conflict, but that did little to cool off the home team.
The Black Hawks blasted past Camden Hills 6-2 with a dominating team effort in their home opener at the Millar Civic Center.
Nick Delucca opened the scoring for the Black Hawks with a goal assisted by Gavin Vining halfway through the first period. That goal held up for the remainder of the first period and all of the second period, before the scoring intensity picked up.
Camden Hills tied the game up early in the third period, but the Black Hawks responded at the 8:52 mark as Josh Malone slid the puck past Camden Hills’ goalie.
The Black Hawks scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 3:35 remaining when AJ Henderson found the back of the net with an unassisted goal. Malone went on to add three more goals with assists from Brandon Dunn, Delucca and Drew Marino in the final few minutes of the game.
Nate Lilley tallied 32 saves on 34 shots in goal.
